Building science is the study of how buildings function as a complete system, encompassing not only the building envelope but also elements of structural design and material performance. It examines how heat, air, and moisture move through and around a building, while also considering how loads are carried, how assemblies respond to stress, and how construction methods
affect long-term durability.

When these factors are not properly managed, buildings may experience issues such as energy loss, condensation, premature material degradation, or even structural concerns. These issues can negatively impact occupant comfort and building performance in both the short and long term of the life cycle of a building. Brown & Beattie’s team is passionate about building science and applies core building science and engineering principles to investigate building concerns and deterioration, determine their underlying causes, and provide clear recommendations to improve efficiency, resilience, and comfort while restoring the service life of the building.
